Since the initial survey that was sent out through NACCHO’s communication channels in April 2020, NACCHO has conducted two follow-up surveys: one in January of 2021 and another that closed at the end of July 2021.
In recognition of Lyme Disease Awareness Month, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) urges people to “Get the tips to stop the ticks!”
Suffolk County (NY) mentored Franklin County (OH)’s new tick surveillance program as part of NACCHO’s Vector Control Collaborative. COVID-19 travel restrictions did not stop the expansion of tick species, nor did they stop this virtual mentorship. FaceTime tick dragging is a socially-distanced and low-cost way to receive technical assistance for field work.
ASTHO's environmental health team published a report examining three case studies that capture state vector-borne disease control officials’ response to the public health threats posed by ticks.
As part of their research on human exposure to ticks, Columbia University has developed a smartphone application to collect data through simple surveys with a citizen science approach: The Tick App.
