Notes from the Field: Multistate Outbreak of Eastern Equine Encephalitis Virus

Notes from the Field report from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) focuses on the 2019 multistate outbreak of eastern equine encephalitis virus (EEEV), one of the most severe mosquito-borne diseases in North America. As of October 15, 2019, CDC received reports of 34 cases of EEEV disease from 21 counties in seven states. Over the previous 15 years, an average of eight cases were reported annually. The cause of the 2019 increase is not immediately clear.
