Travel Funds Available for the 2020 Biennial Meeting of the Conference for Food Protection

The 2020 Biennial Meeting of the Conference for Food Protection is scheduled for March 30 – April 3, 2020 in Denver, Colorado. If you have not already registered, visit the conference website, where you will find an online registration form. Alternatively, you may download the registration form and email or mail it to the address indicated.

This year the Conference is fortunate in having received an FDA grant in the amount of $50,000 for the purpose of facilitating meeting attendance.  The purpose of this communication is to alert all interested parties that applications may now be filed to request travel subsidy money for this event. The application period will commence immediately and will close on February 21, 2020.  Only applications received by 8:00 p.m. CST on February 21 will be considered for funding.

Emphasis will be placed on providing funding to Conference members from state and local regulatory jurisdictions whose participation might otherwise be denied owing to budget constraints. The following criteria, listed in priority order, will be used for determination of funding: Council membership; Assembly of State Delegate status; Committee status; and attendance approval in place. The per capita award amount will be a function of dividing the total grant dollar amount by the number of approved applicants with a maximum award of $800 per person. More than one person per agency can receive funding but they must submit individual requests to CFP using this form.

If you work for an agency that is enrolled in the Retail Food Program and you are able to get the required authorization you should apply for funds through the Association of Food and Drug Officials (AFDO) using the following link –   afdo.org/retailstandards

You should complete and submit the Travel Subsidy Request form to Clifford Nutt, CFP Executive Treasurer via email at cnutt.cfp@gmail.com if one or more of the following situations occur:

  • You work for an agency that is NOT enrolled in the Retail Program Standards,
  • You aren’t able to get the needed approval from the funding authority in your jurisdiction to apply for funds through AFDO, or
  • You will be paying your own travel and lodging expenses to attend the meeting and you need to be reimbursed personally.

Applicants will be notified of their individual award amount following the close of the application-filing period. Reimbursement funds will be processed upon receipt of appropriate documentation for expenses related to travel and/or hotel accommodations.

Please apply for travel funding either through AFDO for those who qualify, or directly to CFP, but not through both channels. We will be coordinating together to make awards using the same funding priorities. You will only receive funding from one source and submitting two applications will not improve your odds of receiving travel assistance.
