Focused on the health and well-being of adolescents, a new report by Trust for America’s Health (TFAH) and Well Being Trust continues a series of Pain in the Nation reports that inform national policy to advance a comprehensive National Resilience Strategy. In addition to highlighting recent trends in adolescent substance use and suicide, Addressing a Crisis: Cross-Sector Strategies to Prevent Adolescent Substance Use and Suicide identifies risk and protective factors that influence adolescent risk for substance use and suicide and other critical youth outcomes, such as academic success. The report highlights dozens of evidence-based, cross-sector approaches that can improve adolescents’ life circumstances, protect them from harm and set them on healthy trajectories leading to their success in school and into adulthood. The report provides a set of cross-sector recommendations to prevent adolescent substance misuse and suicide, including a strong focus on school health and increasing the provision of health services in schools.
