American Academy of Family Physicians (AAFP) developed a new STI screening practice manual to support family physicians educating their patients about STIs, obtaining a sexual history, and providing appropriate care. The manual features current recommendations from the AAFP, US Preventive Services Task Force, and CDC and preferred testing modalities for eight common STIs.
The manual’s co-author, Dr. Shannon Connolly, states, “STI screening is more important now than ever…We have seen a terrifying increase in STI incidence nationally over the last several years at a time when a lot of public health programs to address STIs are losing funding.”
