Building the Political Will for Child-centered Policies

December 4 @ 1:00 pm - 2:00 pm

Children suffer harm from unnecessary exposures to pollution and toxics, and early life exposures are risk factors for chronic diseases such as diabetes, cardiovascular disease, cancer, asthma, and neurological and reproductive disorders. Climate change multiplies these threats. There is an urgent need for transformative, systems change, driven by and reflected in our policies and practices.Yet the political will for protection of children’s environmental health has waned over the years. Children’s environmental health is not a high priority among many — as a matter of policy or for political decision makers.

Building political will to protect children’s environmental health requires a groundswell of activity and support, as well as elevation of the value of children’s environmental health among decision makers. In this 5th and final installment of our 2019 webinar series, we will highlight two leaders who are using both of these approaches towards creating and defending healthy and just communities where all children and future generations will have the greatest chance to achieve wellness and reach their full potential.

Webinar Objectives:

  • Hear from two leaders who successfully advocate for protective policies and regulations with regard to children’s environmental health hazards and environmental and climate justice.
  • Learn about their specific on-the-ground challenges to building the political will on these issues.
  • Hear about their successes and continued efforts to carry those successes forward into transformative systems change.
