2019 Public Health Communications Webinar Series: Communications Principles to Address Vaccine Resistance and Hesitancy

June 13 @ 2:30 pm - 3:45 pm

For the second year in a row, NACCHO is pleased to host a multi-part webinar series to help local health departments build capacity to engage in public health communication.

Coordinated by NACCHO and the National Public Health Information Coalition (NPHIC), “Communications Principles to Address Vaccine Hesitancy” will help participants effectively communicate when there’s a vaccine-preventable disease outbreak. The webinar will highlight best practices in building a collaborative community response; discuss effective ways to dispel common myths and misinformation typically associated with vaccine-preventable disease outbreaks; illustrate effective ways to address groups resistant to embrace the benefits of vaccines in a non-confrontational way; and identify new challenges facing public health professionals who are charged with protecting the health of communities from vaccine preventable diseases.

Learning Objectives

    • Describe the importance of understanding individual and community factors that influence vaccine hesitancy
    • Understand how to identify your audience’s level of acceptance of vaccination (unsure, delaying, refusing) and tailor messages appropriately
    • Learn how social media has raised the stakes in the importance of providing the public with science-based information in a timely manner
    • Understand the importance and effectiveness of building and maintaining collaboration from various sectors of the public

Featured Speakers

  • Daniel Regenye, Public Health Coordinator/ Health Officer, Ocean County Public Health
