NACCHO has released Module 1 of its new Local Health Departments and Hepatitis C educational series. Hepatitis C virus (HCV) infection, the most common chronic blood-borne infection in the United States, presents significant challenges to the public health and healthcare system. Local health departments play an important role in addressing these challenges and serving impacted populations in their communities; however, resources and capacities to address HCV are limited. NACCHO developed this educational series to increase knowledge of HCV-related topics, provide information and examples of how local health departments can leverage existing resources to address HCV, and share successful local health department practices and policies for expanding HCV-related services in their communities. Throughout 2015, NACCHO will develop and disseminate additional HCV educational modules, resources, and tools. Stay tuned for more HCV updates and resources.
