The National Academy for State Health Policy (NASHP) recently released a comprehensive toolkit designed to support state public health and Medicaid collaborations aimed at improving health outcomes among people living with HIV (PLWH). This toolkit was developed based on the experiences of 19 states that participated in the HIV Health Improvement Affinity Group (HHIAG), a collaborative initiative supported by the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS), the Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA), and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).
During the 12-month initiative, HHIAG state teams developed and implemented quality improvement projects to improve viral suppression rates in their Medicaid/CHIP populations. Those state plans emphasized:
The NASHP toolkit offers public health and Medicaid staff in all states an opportunity to learn from and build on the experiences of those 19 HHIAG states. New items will be added to the toolkit on a regular basis, providing state officials with up-to-date information and timely policy resources.
