Representatives from the National Viral Hepatitis Roundtable (NVHR) and Harvard Law School Center for Health Law and Policy Innovation (CHLPI) recently penned an article about the link between hepatitis C and the opioid epidemic.
Per the article, the unprecedented rate of injection drug use in our country has created a new generation of hepatitis C patients under the age of 30, yet restrictions to hepatitis C cures remain. The article highlights NVHR’s State of Hep C report, which finds that many Medicaid programs are barring people who inject drugs from receiving hepatitis C treatment – a policy that is exacerbating the spread of the nation’s most communicable disease.
