The Kaiser Family Foundation recently released a new issue brief which, based on data analysis and interviews with navigators that specifically targeted enrollment assistance to people with HIV, explores the role navigators play in serving this population and the potential impact of recent funding cuts for this enrollment period.
The navigators discussed their knowledge about HIV treatment, specialized assessment of plan design, deep understanding of the Ryan White Program, and ability to provide a safe, stigma-free setting to discuss coverage needs. They also voiced concern that these services could be diminished or eliminated as a result of the cut to navigator funding, and that ultimately, some people with HIV may not enroll or could potentially enroll in unaffordable plans and fall out of coverage.
