Available Now: New Vector Control Toolkit

Dec 04, 2017 | Kim Rodgers

Winter is now in full swing in many parts of the country. Although vector control and surveillance may often be considered a task for summer pests like mosquitoes and ticks, local health authorities must be aware of vector-borne illnesses year-round. In southern states, pests that are active in warm weather may only lie dormant for a few short months. In colder regions, the winter months bring greater risk for human contact with rodents seeking shelter indoors.

Reflecting the continuation of vector control efforts throughout the year, NACCHO is launching a new Vector Control Toolkit to assist local health departments in their vector control and surveillance efforts. The tools were selected by subject matter experts for their relevance and utility, and includes resources published by NACCHO. The NACCHO Toolbox is continuously evolving as resources are updated and new research emerges.

To view the Vector Control Toolkit, visit the NACCHO Toolbox and select “Vector Control Toolkit” from the Toolkits drop-down menu. If you have any questions about NACCHO’s vector control program, or would like to submit your own tool, please contact the Environmental Health Team at [email protected].
