Call for Applications: National Leadership Academy for the Public’s Health

Oct 16, 2017 | Kim Rodgers

What is the National Leadership Academy for the Public’s Health?
Today’s context for public health leadership is complex, rapidly evolving, and calls for new approaches to the development of leaders for today and the future. The National Leadership Academy for the Public’s Health (NLAPH) is an innovative approach to leadership development that brings together teams of leaders from multiple sectors to actively engage their communities in achieving health equity. Since 2012, NLAPH has proven successful in bringing together leaders from diverse sectors (i.e. health, housing, education, transportation and law enforcement) to drive action through a unique, evidence-based leadership program.

The program develops advanced leadership skills through blended learning modalities, including a series of webinars, a national retreat, coaching support from national experts, and peer networking. These leadership skills are further refined and deepened as teams work together on an applied health leadership project to improve population health.

The result: Highly competent teams of leaders equipped with knowledge and skills to work across sectors and actively engage communities to address population health inequities.

Who is eligible to apply?
Teams of four (4) individuals coming from intact coalitions/working groups already working across sectors to problem-solve are eligible to apply. Four (4) teams will be selected, two (2) from the Appalachian region, and two (2) from the Mid-region of the US. Each team is required to have one public health department member. Team members should include leaders who can contribute to advancing work that fulfills the team’s established goals for improving community health.

All team members are required to commit 100 hours to the program, participate in the Academy launch webinar on February 22, 2018, and attend a 2.5 day leadership retreat April 23-26, 2018, in Atlanta, GA.

When can my team apply?
For the 2018 cohort application, please visit the NLAPH page on our website to find out more and to access the application. Please email [email protected] if you have questions or need assistance. All applications must be submitted by Friday, January 12, 2018, by 5:00 p.m. Pacific Standard Time.

What is the cost for my team to participate?
NLAPH is free for all teams, including the cost of round-trip transportation and lodging at the retreat, access to all program materials, participation in webinars as well as access to the archives, and enrollment in the Leadership Learning Network (LLN) after completion of the program period.
