New Funding Opportunity for Improving Health Equity

Sep 03, 2015 | Bridget Kerner

The Health Impact Project, a collaboration of the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation (RWJF) and The Pew Charitable Trusts, has issued a Call for Proposals (CFP) to target factors outside of the health care sector as a means for improving health equity in seven Southern and Appalachian states: Alabama, Arkansas, Kentucky, Louisiana, Mississippi, Tennessee, and West Virginia.

The Health Impact Project will award seven “foundational” grants of up to $45,000 to selected leaders and their organizations. The funding will provide the resources, time, and skills for grantees to engage key stakeholders and identify the most pressing health or health equity issues facing their communities—as well as the non-health care drivers behind those issues (i.e., health determinants). At the end of the grant period, grantees will have a clear, community-driven plan of action for achieving their outcome-based goals.

This Call for Proposals is open to organizations in the seven aforementioned Southern and Appalachian states. Applicants outside of the public health sector are eligible and are encouraged to apply. Experience conducting health impact assessments or related approaches to incorporate health is not required.Proposals are due at 5 p.m. ET Nov. 13, 2015.

An informational webinar is scheduled for 2 p.m. ET Sept. 30, 2015. Please register here.

The Health Impact Project is also actively seeking funding partners to support implementation of the initiatives developed through this funding opportunity. Activities supported by future grants will build on the skills, collaborations, and capabilities achieved through this CFP.
