The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has extended the compliance date for the Nutrition Facts and Supplement Facts Label Final Rule to January, 1, 2020. This extension will give food manufacturers an extra 18 to 30 months to comply to the revised Nutrition Facts, Supplement Facts and Serving Size labels on their products. While the food industry has praised the extension, consumer organizations warn that the delay adversely affects public health.
According to the FDA, the rule “calls for packaged foods to reflect new scientific information, including the link between diet and chronic diseases such as obesity and heart disease. The new label will make it easier for consumers to make better informed food choices.” Learn more about the extension here.
