The Pew Charitable Trusts and the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation (RWJF) recently released a new report titled, “10 Policies to Prevent and Respond to Childhood Lead Exposure.” Based on an extensive review of the impact related to childhood lead exposure and the most cost-effective strategies to reduce and eliminate this environmental health hazard, the report offers numerous key findings and actionable recommendations. Recommendations include specific directives on reducing lead levels existing in U.S. homes, food, air, and soil. Additionally, the report’s authors urge the need for a greater focus on data and research related to identifying sources for local lead exposure and strategies to better target state and local response efforts.
