U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) Commissioner Scott Gottlieb recently issued a statement on the FDA’s role in menu labeling. The statement emphasized the importance of ensuring Americans have access to clear and consistent calorie and nutrition information on menus at restaurants, movie theaters, and grocery stores nationwide. Earlier this year in May 2017, the FDA announced that it would delay the rule mandating calorie counts just two days before the rule was set to take effect. Now, in this most recent statement, Gottlieb indicated that the FDA plans to stick with its current May 2018 compliance deadline. Click here to view the full statement.
