The Seafood Tracebility Rule requires the fishing industry to trace their fish from boat or farm by species and origin. This rule helps retail food regulatory programs to protect consumers from buying or consuming seafood that has been misbranded. The rule emerged during President Barack Obama’s final days as President and is sent to become effective on January 1, 2018. The rule was challenged earlier this year by the National Fisheries Institute and eight individual seafood companies. However, the judge presiding over this case has ruled against the fishing industry. Click here to learn more about this decision.
