The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has published three guidance documents to help food producers understand which part of the Food Safety Modernization Act (FSMA) affects them and their operations. The new guidance aims to help industry stakeholders identify FSMA exemptions and understand the juice, seafood, and Low-Acid Canned Foods (LACF) regulations in connection with some of the new FSMA requirements. The overarching goal of many of the new FSMA requirements is to reduce the number of foodborne illnesses attributed to the preventable contamination of FDA-regulated food products.
