Through the Food Safety Modernization Act’s (FSMA’s) Produce Safety Rule, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) will award $30.9 million to 43 states and territories to help implement the rules. Adopted in 2015, the FSMA’s Produce Safety Rule establishes science-based minimum standards for the safe growing, harvesting, packing and holding of fresh fruits and vegetables grown for human consumption. Beginning in January 2018, the nation’s largest growers have to comply with certain aspects of the rule. Additional time to comply is given to smaller producers. Click here to learn more.
