Two Local Health Departments Win the 2017 Crumbine Awards

Jul 19, 2017 | Amy Chang

The 2017 Samuel J. Crumbine Consumer Protection Award for Excellence in Food Protection was awarded to two local health departments this year, Boulder County Public Health in Colorado and Kansas City, Missouri Health Department. According to the Samuel Crumbine Awards, the award “is a prestigious award given annually to local environmental health jurisdictions that demonstrate unsurpassed achievement in providing outstanding food protection services to their communities. The purpose of the award is to encourage innovative programs and methods that reduce or eliminate the occurrence of foodborne illnesses, recognize the importance of food protection at the local level and stimulate public interest in foodservice sanitation. Often, winning programs offer “best practices” that may be used by others to advance their own food protection programs.”

The two winners were recently recognized at the following national conferences:

  • NACCHO Annual conference on July 11-13, 2017 in Pittsburgh;
  • National Environmental Health Association Annual Educational Conference & Exhibition (July 10-13) in Grand Rapids, Michigan; and
  • International Association for Food Protection Annual Meeting (July 9-12) in Tampa, Florida.
