Since the beginning of April, there have been 11 cases of human plague across six states and three deaths from the disease. This is higher than usual for the year and the CDC update about the situation can be found at: http://www.cdc.gov/mmwr/preview/mmwrhtml/mm64e0825a1.htm?s_cid=mm64e0825a1_x.
