NACCHO Launches Healthcare-Associated Infections Toolkit for LHDs

Jun 30, 2017 | Kim Rodgers

Healthcare-associated infections (HAIs), which people acquire while receiving treatment or care for another condition, affect 1 in 25 hospital patients in the United States each year and can lead to sepsis or death. HAI risks are not limited to hospital patients and can occur in any healthcare setting (e.g., long-term care, dialysis clinics, doctor’s offices). With the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) naming HAIs a “Winnable Battle,” it is time for local health departments (LHDs) to increase their capacity to address this public health threat at the community level.

As such, NACCHO is pleased to announce the launch of Healthcare-Associated Infections: A Toolkit for Local Health Departments. Developed in coordination with demonstration sites from NACCHO’s Lessons in Infection Control program, this toolkit provides LHDs with guidance, best practices, tools, and resources for expanding activities related to improving local infection control, preparedness, and response.

Download the toolkit to strengthen your LHD’s knowledge and capacity to address HAIs, and increase confidence in your agency’s ability to effectively establish and execute a course of action when faced with an HAI. For more information about the toolkit, contact NACCHO’s Infectious Diseases Team.
