amfAR, The Foundation for AIDS Research, has launched an Opioid & Health Indicators database to be used as a tool that can provide a window into the opioid epidemic unfolding across the United States. The free web platform was designed to support communities, lawmakers, and advocates in making informed decisions about the opioid epidemic and its impact on HIV and hepatitis C. The database includes various health indicators associated with the opioid epidemic at the county, congressional district and state levels, such as hepatitis C prevalence by state, acute hep C cases, and funding from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) for hepatitis C by state. Some hepatitis C data are also available by county and congressional district where available. All of the data are derived from reputable sources and publicly available. Check out this infographic for more information on the database’s capabilities, and browse the database to learn more about the intersections of the opioid epidemic and infectious disease where you live.
