The Guttmacher Institute recently released a State Policy Brief on partner treatment for STIs which explores state policies around Expedited Partner Therapy, the clinical practice of treating the sex partners of patients diagnosed with chlamydia or gonorrhea by providing prescriptions or medications to take to his or her partner without first being examined by a healthcare provider. This report highlighted that 30 states and the District of Columbia now allow health care practitioners to provide at least some STI treatment for the partner of a patient diagnosed with an STI without first examining the partner.
