Call for Papers: Prevention and Treatment of Opioid Overdose and Opioid-Use Disorders

Apr 17, 2017 | Kim Rodgers

Addictive Behaviors is now accepting submissions for a special issue, Prevention and Treatment of Opioid Overdose and Opioid-Use Disorders. Papers may include epidemiological, laboratory-based, or community-based research on prevention and/or treatment of opioid overdose, misuse of opioids (prescribed or illicit), and opioid-use disorders. Specific topics of interest include:

  • Community-based approaches to overdose prevention
  • Prediction and prevention of opioid-use disorders in people being treated for pain
  • Role of pain and other comorbidities including use of other substances in the development and treatment of opioid addiction
  • Best practices in tapering opioids or opioid agonist treatment
  • Interventions to reduce inappropriate prescribing
  • Overcoming barriers to treatment for opioid-use disorders
  • Improving adoption and adherence of evidence-based treatment for opioid-use disorders
  • Geography of opioid-use disorders and overdose
  • Gaps in need versus availability of treatment, and strategies to address them
  • Cost-effectiveness of behavioral and pharmacological interventions for opioid-use disorders

Submissions can be reports of research results, methodological papers, or literature reviews. We are especially interested in research focusing on young adults, gender disparities in prevention and/or treatment, or personalization of treatment. Successful papers will discuss how their results replicate, extend, or fail to replicate existing laboratory-based, cross-sectional, or epidemiological findings. Papers should also highlight future directions related to the specific intervention(s).

The deadline for manuscript submission is September 1, 2017. All submissions must adhere to journal guidelines and will undergo peer review. Accepted papers will be published online individually prior to print publication. To be considered, select “SI: Opioids and Overdose” from the “Choose Type of Article” dropdown menu.

Those interested in contributing to the issue should start by submitting a brief letter of intent to the Guest Editors, Kenzie L. Preston, PhD ([email protected]) and Karran Phillips, MD, MSc ([email protected]), to ensure that your topic fits the scope of the special issue.
