The New York State Disability and Health Program in partnership with the SUNY Albany School of Public Health released a recording of their March 2016 webcast, “Healthy Communities: An Assessment and Implementation Framework to Achieve Inclusion of Persons with Disability.” During the webcast, featured presenter, Yochai Eisenberg, MUPP, from the Center on Health Promotion Research for Persons with Disabilities at the University of Illinois at Chicago, described the importance of recognizing persons with disability as a demographic group that experiences health disparities. Next, Eisenberg introduced the Community Health Inclusion Index (CHII), a new assessment tool which public health professionals can use to develop and implement strategies promoting healthy and active lifestyles for individuals with disabilities. Finally, attendees received an overview of lessons learned from previous demonstration projects using CHII and best practices for implementation.
