The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) recently released a CDC Vital Signs fact sheet on hearing loss caused by noise exposure. About 40 million US adults aged 20-69 have noise-induced hearing loss. Many of these cases occur outside of the work place, meaning that activities such as going to loud concerts or a leaf blower can cause hearing damage. It is important for those at risk of hearing damage to be screened by their healthcare provider. Local health officials are encouraged to visit the CDC website for more information.
