On February 6, 2017, NACCHO hosted the first webinar in the PHI Conference Webinar series, “Electronic Health Records to Advance Chronic Disease Surveillance.” The session focused on how electronic health record (EHR) data is utilized in chronic disease surveillance and environmental public health tracking programs. During the webinar, presenters:
- Provided a brief overview of the health IT ecosystems and how EHRs are currently leveraged in chronic disease epidemiological and surveillance activities;
- Introduced the concept of a population health informatics framework that encompasses a variety of transactions (e.g., referrals, data exchange) proposed to advance population health functionality and promote population health outcomes; and,
- Provided an overview of case studies that use EHR data in environmental public health tracking.
