The Centers for Disease Prevention and Control (CDC) Public Health Law Program and the Healthy People 2020 initiative recently developed a catalog of resources on law and health policy topics related to disability and health. Law and health policies that support people with disabilities can contribute to the success of the Healthy People 2020 Disability and Health goals to “maximize health, prevent chronic disease, improve social and environmental living conditions, and promote full community participation, choice, health equity, and quality of life among individuals with disabilities of all ages.”
The legal and policy resources include information focusing the following three topics on:
- addressing barriers to health care;
- fostering disability-friendly environments; and
- ensuring community activities are inclusive and accessible.
NACCHO encourages local health departments to use this resource as a tool to promote accessibility and inclusion in the communities they serve.
