On November 30, 2016, the day before World AIDS Day, Denver Public Health announced that the city achieved a second major milestone in UNAIDS’ 90-90-90 treatment targets for ending the AIDS epidemic. Now, in Denver, not only do 90% of people living with HIV know their HIV status, but 90% percent of those diagnosed and in HIV care have suppressed viral loads. This excellent news comes just over a year after Mayor Michael B. Hancock signed the Paris Declaration to join the global effort to end the AIDS Epidemic by 2030.
NACCHO congratulates Denver on reaching this second milestone, and looks forward to the city’s continued work to reach the final milestone of having 90% of people who are HIV-positive are in care.
