The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) recently released a beta version of their HIV Risk Reduction Tool. The customizable, interactive tool helps people learn about the risk of getting HIV or transmitting HIV to someone else, as well as how to lower that risk. The tool highlights and discusses multiple factors that either increase or decrease risk of getting or transmitting HIV. CDC hopes that by learning about these factors, people will become better informed and can better protect themselves and help others avoid getting or transmitting HIV.

To help refine and improve the tool, CDC is seeking feedback. NACCHO recommends that local health departments, particularly those that offer sexual health services, browse the tool and provide feedback. When providing feedback, please keep in mind that this tool was developed for adults: it includes sexually explicit language that is necessary for clarity and accuracy, but may not be suitable for individuals under 18 years of age.
