A coalition of diverse public health agencies including NACCHO partnered to design a new document titled Investing in a Robust Environmental Health System. This resource is a valuable tool for public health officials advocating for the value and the need of investment in environmental health services, especially when addressing either local, state or federal decision makers.
It emphasizes the significance of environmental health as a branch of public health and the need for further support of the field. The document also provides specific calls to action for the federal government to build an “effective and strong environmental health system.” Finally, it provides three specific case examples demonstrating the need for environmental health services including the flint water crisis, the Zika virus outbreak and Hurricanes Katrina and Sandy. Local health departments and partners are highly encouraged to download and use this tool to grow support for environmental health field, both locally and nationally.
