On October 5, 2016, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and The Pew Charitable Trusts, in collaboration with 12 national health organizations, released a joint letter on the importance of antibiotic stewardship in outpatient settings. The letter represents the commitment of these organizations to work together to expand current antibiotic stewardship efforts, fill research gaps around effective interventions for improving prescribing habits, and help health care professionals and patients use antibiotics appropriately in outpatient settings.
