NACCHO’s Executive Director Dr. LaMar Hasbrouck provided a local perspective about the challenges of fighting super bugs and steps to take to fight back in an August 4 article in USA Today. The article examines a new Vital Signs report from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) showing that the United States could save 37,000 lives over the next five years by taking immediate action to improve the way it fights healthcare-associated infections.
Dr. Hasbrouck shared his experience with healthcare-associated infection reporting as the former director of the Illinois Department of Public Health prior to his role at NACCHO. He also provided recommendations for how local health departments can work regionally to address super bugs. Further, the CDC Vital Signs report outlines ways that local health departments can get involved in the fight against antibiotic resistance.
