The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) just published a study estimating patterns of US inpatient antibiotic use in recent years. The findings showed more widespread use by U.S. hospitals of powerful antibiotics designed to fight infections when less-robust antibiotics fail, which the researchers described as a “worrisome” development as bacteria grow increasingly immune to treatment.
