The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) seeks exceptional candidates for the position of Health Scientist to serve as the Associate Director for Health Equity in the Office of Health Equity (OHE), in the Office of the Director, in the National Center for HIV/AIDS, Viral Hepatitis, STD, and TB Prevention (NCHHSTP). As a leader at CDC, the Associate Director will play a key role in the promotion of health equity. The mission of OHE is to promote health equity, the absence of systematic unfair disparities in health, and reduce health disparities among populations disproportionately affected by HIV, viral hepatitis, sexually transmitted diseases, tuberculosis, and other related conditions. OHE supports activities that aim to reduce health inequities among affected populations through research and surveillance, policy, health communication, prevention and intervention programs, capacity building, and partnerships.

Major Duties and Responsibilities
The Associate Director (AD) for Health Equity will serve as a national and international recognized expert authority for activities related to infectious diseases in racial/ethnic minorities, women, sexual and gender minorities, and other populations that are disproportionately affected by HIV, viral hepatitis, sexually transmitted diseases (STD) and tuberculosis (TB). He/She will lead and assist in the planning and conduct of health equity science, research, program, prevention and training activities relevant to populations disproportionately impacted by HIV, viral hepatitis, STD, and TB. The AD will serve as liaison with the academic community; professional societies; civic, social, and religious groups; and volunteer agencies concerning health problems of racial and ethnic minorities, women, sexual and gender minorities and other disproportionally affected populations. The incumbent will provide consultation on scientific and technical issues, formulating and developing program policy and guidance, planning strategies to manage and deliver the program, providing operational oversight, chairing the diversity program, and supervising and managing staff. The AD will also represent the agency on national working groups and committees dealing with issues relevant to populations disproportionately impacted by HIV, viral hepatitis, STD, and TB.

Required Qualifications

• PhD, MD, or equivalent degree
• Expertise in the field of health sciences or allied sciences appropriate to work of the position.
• Extensive, proven experience leading a national recognized public health program
