Fact Sheet on Public Health and School Nurse Collaboration

School nurses are an integral part of public health, especially when it comes to children and families. By collaborating with school nurses, state and local health departments can improve school health services, and can better address population health. For example, nurses have a central role in disease surveillance, disease prevention, wellness, and even health policy. By implementing social, cultural and economic reforms that best suit their communities, nurses can effectively address social determinants of health.
