To help combat the problem of HIV in the transgender (trans) community, on April 18, the CDC’s Capacity Building Assistance Provider Network partner, the Center of Excellence (CoE) for Transgender Health at the University of California, San Francisco, will launch their inaugural National Transgender HIV Testing Day (NTHTD).
The trans community is one of the groups that is at highest risk for HIV infections in the United States. NTHTD aims to increase awareness about the importance of HIV testing, prevention, and treatment among the trans community. The encourage local organizations, health departments, and HIV prevention programs to participate in the initiative by creating their own events and campaigns around the issue, the CoE has developed a Transgender HIV Testing Toolkit. The Toolkit contains five modules which reflect the most recent best practices and HIV prevention research for serving trans and gender non-binary people.
