The Climate and Health Program at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) has announced the release of two technical guidance documents intended to help the public health community anticipate the future health impacts of climate change.
The first document, Projecting Climate-Related Disease Burden: A Guide for Health Departments, is an overview of the process for establishing exposure-response relationships and developing scenario-based projections. It is intended as a summary of the issue for health departments, academic partners, and other stakeholders interested in climate change health impact projections.
The second document is a companion piece, Projecting Climate-Related Disease Burden: A Case Study on Methods for Projecting Respiratory Health Impacts. Our colleagues at the New York State Department of Health and the University at Albany, State University of New York, co-authored this case study that demonstrates one approach to estimating current and future public health burden.
Both technical guidance documents are available for download.
