National Women and Girls HIV/AIDS Awareness Day (NWGHAAD) is an annual health observance that sheds light on the impact of HIV and AIDS on women and girls. The 2016 NWGHAAD theme is “The Best Defense Is a Good Offense.” In 2010, young people made up 17% of the U.S. population, but accounted for an estimated 26% of all new HIV infections in the United States. Women and girls face unique HIV risks and challenges.
CDC has developed graphics and infographics and a list of things you can do to commemorate NWGHHAD to provide resources and ideas for how to get involved. If your health department is doing something for NWGHAAD, use the hash tag #NWGHAAD tag us at @NACCHOalerts.
