The theme for World Cancer Day 2016 is “We can, I can.” Join NACCHO on February 4 in efforts to unite the world’s population in the fight against cancer.
Currently, 8.2 million people die from cancer worldwide every year. In the United States, there was an estimated 1,658,370 new cancer cases diagnosed and 589,430 cancer deaths in 2015. World Cancer Day encourages others to take action by raising awareness and education about cancer.
Local health departments play an important role in planning, implementing, and evaluating evidence-based cancer prevention and control strategies to improve population health. NACCHO supports local implementation of Comprehensive Cancer Control as a means to leverage community resources for cancer prevention, early detection, and treatment.
