CDC has released a new Morbidity and Mortality Weekly Report, “Vital Signs: Demographic and Substance Use Trends Among Heroin Users — United States, 2002–2013.” This report shows that heroin use has increased across the United States among men and women, most age groups, and all income levels. Further, some of the greatest increases occurred in demographic groups with historically low rates of heroin use: women, the privately insured, and people with higher incomes. People are also abusing multiple other substances such as cocaine and prescription opioid painkillers. View the report to learn more about the trends and risk factors behind the heroin epidemic.
