NACCHO Funds Ten Local Health Departments to Identify Strategies to Increase HPV Vaccination Rates

Dec 11, 2015 | Kate Drezner

NACCHO awarded ten local health departments funding to identify strategies and develop an action plan to improve vaccination rates for human papillomavirus (HPV), the leading cause of cervical and several other types of cancers. The award, with funding from the CDC, will provide direct support to the health departments to engage locally with healthcare providers and other partners to increase HPV vaccination rates according to the recommendations of the Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices. The selected local health departments include the following:

  • Florida Department of Health in St. Johns County (FL)
  • Florida Department of Health in Pinellas County (FL)
  • Houston Health Department (TX)
  • Jackson County Health Department (MO)
  • Kanawha-Charleston County Health Department & Putnam County Health Department (WV)
  • Linn County Public Health & Jones County Public Health (IA)
  • Niagara County Department of Health (NY)
  • Orange County Department of Health (NY)
  • Pima County Health Department (AZ)
  • Waco-McLennan County Public Health District (TX)

This is the second cohort of health departments NACCHO has funded to develop action plans to increase HPV vaccination rates. The first cohort, originally funded in fall 2014, is currently implementing the action plans in their communities. To read more about NACCHO’s HPV vaccine promotion work, see a fact sheet and visit NACCHO’s website.
