Researchers at the University of Georgia recently conducted a study to determine the extent to which kitchen utensils spread E.coli or salmonella between produce items. The study found that knives and graters can cause additional cross-contamination in the kitchen and unwashed utensils can spread pathogens among produce items. Researchers also found that certain fruits and vegetables spread pathogens to knives at different degrees.
