Highlights: NACCHO Represents Local Public Health at STD Engage

Dec 04, 2019 | Kim Rodgers

STD Engage 2019: Innovate. Impact. Empower was held in Alexandria, VA, November 19-22, 2019. The conference brought together disease intervention specialists (DIS), clinic and program staff, and directors, as well as stakeholders from across the country to learn about innovations in the field and discuss how to make headway against crisis levels of STIs. Staff from NACCHO’s HIV, STI, & Viral Hepatitis team attended and presented in three sessions. Click on the descriptions below to access presentation slides.

Implementing Quality STD Clinical Services Recommendations. This session focused on the CDC’s forthcoming Recommendations for Providing Quality STD Clinical Services in Primary and Specialty Care Settings, which will provide national guidance on quality STD care by setting, and the development of an implementation guide, which will support translation of the recommendations into practical application with use of an assessment tool and decision-making support. Please note that as the Recommendations have not yet been cleared for dissemination, the slides are heavily redacted.

Beyond STDs: Addressing the Intersection Between STDs, PrEP, and Substance Use. This session explored the intersections between STDs and substance abuse and provided practical examples of how programs are evolving to meet the broader health care needs of patients.

Novel Approaches for Increasing Capacity within STD Clinic Settings. Clinics across the country are exploring express services to deal with increasing patients and decreasing resources. Read what NACCHO’s STI Express Initiative has been doing to support the establishment, scale-up, and evaluation of express services. For more information, see our new issue brief.
