New Tools for Health Departments to Analyze Data on PrEP, Adolescent Sexual Health, and Hepatitis C

Jul 16, 2019 | Kim Rodgers

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention launched five new tools that enable state and local health departments to easily find data on pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP) indications, behavior change impact, disease epidemiology, and policy and cost implications by jurisdiction. The tools include:

  • The PrEP Populations web-based tool estimates the number of individuals indicated for PrEP by jurisdiction, transmission risk group, and race/ethnicity.
  • Teen-SPARC explores the potential impact of behavior change on reducing sexually transmitted infections among the sexually active high-school-attending adolescent population.
  • The Hep C State Policy Simulator shows the potential impact of different screening and treatment policies, and cost drivers to help state health policy makers make decisions regarding policy and investments related to hepatitis C.
  • The Modeltb tool estimates TB incidence from 2011 to 2015 among people who were non–US-born, had diabetes, or were HIV-positive, homeless, or incarcerated by state. Users can choose populations and see differences in case counts by state.
  • Tabby projects TB incidence, TB mortality, latent TB infection (LTBI) incidence, and LTBI prevalence in the United States through the year 2100. Users can select projections by age, origin, and for five hypothetical scenarios.
