The U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS), along with the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), is conducting focus groups to collect input to enhance federal outreach efforts and information sharing in support of retail food safety – specifically, the control of Listeria monocytogenes in grocery delicatessens.
Robust representation and input are essential to make improvements useful for both retailers and state and local health/agriculture agencies.
Focus groups are projected to be held in July 2019 and take approximately 1.5 hours. The agencies will work to accommodate the schedules of the focus group members. NACCHO is assisting this effort by identifying urban local health departments (>50,000 staff) that provide education and outreach (e.g., Food Code) to delicatessens or a person who oversees these activities.
