The Association of State and Territorial Health Officials (ASTHO) and the National Coalition of STD Directors (NCSD), with support from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), recently released a set of fact sheets designed to help health departments demonstrate the local impact of STD program funding on disease burden and associated medical costs. The fact sheets include information on:
- Effectiveness of STD prevention.
- Impact of program funding over time on cases of syphilis, gonorrhea, chlamydia, and STD-attributable HIV.
- Impact of program funding on disease intervention specialist (DIS) staffing and services.
The fact sheets can be customized with local data outputs calculated from the CDC’s STD Prevention Allocation Consequences Estimator and can be used to elevate awareness about the importance of STD program funding among decision-makers, the media, and local audiences.
