Apply to Host a CDC Public Health Associate!

Jan 22, 2019 | Kim Rodgers

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s (CDC’s) Public Health Associate Program (PHAP) is accepting applications from prospective associates and host sites. PHAP is a two-year, competitive, paid training program for early-career public health professionals. Associates are employed and paid by CDC and work at state, tribal, local, and territorial public health departments; nongovernmental organizations; public health institutes and associations; academic institutions; and CDC quarantine stations. The associate application period is February 4–8, and the host-site application period is February 4–18.

Potential Host Sites
CDC’s Public Health Associate Program (PHAP) is seeking exceptional sites to host an associate from October 2019 to October 2021. Host sites provide frontline public health experience, guidance, training, and supervision for the associates, who are employed and paid by CDC. State, tribal, local, and territorial public health departments; nongovernmental organizations; public health institutes and associations; and academic institutions, are encouraged to apply. There are numerous benefits to serving as a PHAP host site, including:

  • Gaining CDC-funded field assignees who are energetic, intelligent, flexible, career-minded individuals with unlimited potential
  • Forming a unique partnership with CDC to develop the next generation of the public health professionals
  • Filling workforce gaps caused by budget cuts and staffing shortages

The 2019 host site application period is February 4–18. Prospective host sites can learn more about PHAP and the components of a quality application and associate training experience during a technical assistance webinar on January 31st. Additional information can be found on CDC’s PHAP website, in the Become a Host Site section. There you can find helpful program and application information, including webinar recordings, information about eligibility, answers to frequently asked questions, and testimonials from previous host sites. Those with further questions about PHAP or the application process can email [email protected] or call 404-498-0030.

Potential Associates
CDC’s Public Health Associate Program (PHAP) is seeking exceptional recent college graduates interested in public health careers. The 2019 associate application period is February 4–8. There are numerous benefits to serving as an associate, including:

  • Recognition as employees of the nation’s leading public health agency, with the salary and benefits of a term-limited, Title 5 employee
  • Formal training in key public health competency areas, including seminars, workshops, web-based courses, and conferences to enhance basic public health program skills
  • Unique experience various activities in the day-to-day operations of public health programs, qualifying associates to convert to career positions at CDC or equivalent positions in other public health organizations

Prospective associates can learn more about the PHAP application process, explore PHAP’s BEST FIT model to find out if the program is a good fit for them, find answers to frequently asked questions, and read about associate experiences by visiting the Become an Associate section of the PHAP website. Applicants must apply through the federal hiring website: www.usajobs.gov. Those with further questions about PHAP or the application process can email [email protected] or call 404-498-0030.
